This year the PSG inaugurated two new awards, one for a junior or mid-career scholar and one, a Lifetime Achievement Award, to a senior scholar whose research, teaching, and mentoring have had a large impact on the field of population geography. This year, the Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Bill Clark, of the University of California, Los Angeles, for the enormous contributions he has made in our discipline.
Bill’s career was celebrated at a special session at the AAG meetings in Los Angeles. The session opened with a presentation by Bill, during which he commented on his career trajectory, the many people he has worked with, and the different avenues his research interests have followed. His talk was followed by commentary from several of his former students and peers, including an excellent slide show by Suzanne Withers. It was a session to be remembered.
